The Aquinnah Wampanoag tribe owned the shores of Noepe (Martha’s Vineyard) for thousands of years.
The Wampanoag believed the legend of the benevolent being Moshup gave the clay cliffs their famous red colors with the blood of whales he plucked from the sea by their tails.
